This quote above resonates well with my friends from militaries across the world hence I picked it up as this post is about ‘veteran transition’.
“And this is a battle that every officer and soldier fights – The only battle which doesn’t come with gallantry awards.”
The series of the posts here will dwell on the subject of transition preparedness and understanding the tool-box that is required for an effective cross over to corporate street.
The first post in this series attempts to answer:

The first exercise for any military woman or man transitioning from active services should to be to answer the ‘3P‘ of their transition priorities. And these are:
Sounds simple – It exactly is. However this is mostly ignored or not contextualised.
The important exercise next is to identify – which of the two Ps are most important and sacrosanct to you and which one you are willing to negotiate on. Based on this selection exercise – you will be able to prepare yourself and take informed decisions regarding your career move.
Once you know – what do you want, let’s attempt to answer – how to strategise your career move:
These two simple and underrated exercises will help you answer some of your transition priorities and how to get it. The answers to these will come from a deep understanding of your career preferences and personal aspirations. And when you sit down and dwell on this – you will be astonished that how much you know and how much you need to know for a smooth landing.
